The ants cannot cross the small moats around the four legs of this fruit table, and hence the fruit is protected.

Hi, my grandmother used this same idea, in fact it was common practise, when I was a child growing up in the rural South. I may be wrong (it's been a long time ago) but I think they used a mixture of water and kerson in the "moats."
