How Important is Coconut Variety to Productivity?

According to this article, a high-yielding coconut variety has five to six times higher productivity (copra per hectare) than traditional coconut varieties.

Anyone have any of these hybrids?  Are they tall or short? Are there any disadvantages?  All other things being equal, seems important and obvious to plant improved varieties as described in the article.
